Charlie accepts instructions in all areas of public law and human rights, both as sole and junior counsel.
Prior to his career at the bar, Charlie gained experience in various areas of public law, including welfare benefits law (as a pro bono advocate), discrimination law (as an employment tribunal representative for the Free Representation Unit), and housing law (as a caseworker at Release supporting clients with drug dependencies).
Charlie is a member of the Administrative Law Bar Association and the Human Rights Lawyers Association. He welcomes instructions from charities and NGOs, including on a pro bono basis.
Cases
- Charlie is currently acting pro bono in a welfare benefits case, concerning a gap in the PIP regulations affecting individuals who cannot safely take nutrition, with an Upper Tribunal hearing scheduled for November 2025 (led by Brendan McGurk KC).
During pupillage, Charlie assisted on a wide range of matters concerning public law and human rights including:
- A judicial review challenge to an NHS Trust’s decision to withdraw treatment to a child
- Advice on merits and quantum for a false imprisonment claim against the Metropolitan Police.
- Advising on the scope of Citizens’ Rights under the EU-UK Withdrawal Agreement in the context of deportation.
- Advice on whether legal professional privilege had been waived on legal advice given to a government department following reference in parliamentary debates.
- Opinion on the A1P1 ECHR implications of proposed energy market reforms
