SUMMARY:New Protectionism in International Public Procurement
DESCRIPTION:After decades of debate\, and driven in part by “Buy American
” measures in the United States\, the European Union has launched the
International Procurement Instrument (IPI) – a new device to punish t
hose (including potentially U.S. vendors) from nations that do not open th
eir public procurement markets to vendors from the European Union.  At th
e same time\, the EU has reached political agreement on a different meas
ure which would impose price penalties on foreign bidders that received go
vernment subsidies. For its part\, Switzerland\, in its Public Procuremen
t Act\, entered into force in January 2021\, has adopted similar measures
against unfair pricing from abroad.\n\nJoin the GW Law Government Procurem
 ent Law Program for a free\, hour-long webinar on Wednesday\, September 7
\, 2022 at 9:00 am EST (14:00 UK / 15:00 CET) on these critical developmen
ts – measures which define new approaches to protectionism – with lega
l experts and economists from both sides of the Atlantic. Michael Bowsher
QC will be on the panel.\n\nTo register\, please click here.
