SUMMARY:International and EU legal cooperation – a menu of ideas for the 
 practitioner to consider
DESCRIPTION:In a legal environment where governments and private entities a
 re increasingly subject to international and EU legal obligations\, a lega
 l practitioner must be able not only to advise on the applicable law but a
 lso on the way to get things done.\n\nThe text books cover the law. This l
 ecture is intended to cover the “lore” of legal practice\, as much as 
 the “law”. It will consider a number of thematic  areas that a practi
 tioner may  encounter . In that context\, it  will offer a menu of ideas
  for handling the issues that inevitably crop up in a negotiation and in o
 ther forms of international/EU engagement.\n\nChristopher Muttukumaru CB\,
  LLD (Hon)(City)\, MA (Oxon).\n\nChristopher is a barrister at Monckton Ch
 ambers in London. Until December 2013\, he was General Counsel to the UK D
 epartment for Transport (DfT) . Christopher has practised in the EU and In
 ternational Law field for many years. At the Attorney-General’s Office i
 n London\, he was the principal EU Law adviser to the Attorney-General\, a
 nd was a member of the team advising Ministers on the Factortame litigatio
 n. As Deputy Legal Adviser at  the UK Ministry of Defence\, he worked at 
 NATO and at the UN. He was a senior member of the diplomatic delegation th
 at negotiated the Rome Statute establishing the International Criminal Cou
 rt. At DfT and in other Government departments\, Christopher has had exten
 sive exposure to EU Law and International Law issues. He is vice chair of 
 the City Law School Advisory Board and a Bencher of Gray’s Inn.\n\nMs.Li
 anne Mooldijk LL.M. Mleg\n\nLianne works as a lawyer at the Ministry of In
 frastructure and the Environment in The Netherlands. She studied European 
 and International law at the University of Amsterdam and l’Université d
 ’Orléans and did her Masters in International Business law at the Amste
 rdam Nyenrode Business University and Northwestern University in Chicago. 
 Her career with the Dutch Government started while she combined studying L
 egislation at the Academy of Legislation in the Hague with working for the
  Ministry of Health and Sports. In 2006 Lianne worked at the Council of Eu
 rope on the revised European Convention on the Adoption of Children. In he
 r current work in the European Law and Better Regulation unit of the Minis
 try of Infrastructure and the Environment she has gained extensive experie
 nce in working with other Member States and the European Institutions.
