Mini Pupillage
Our mini-pupillage scheme enables those interested in applying to us for pupillage to experience what life is like as a barrister at Monckton Chambers
What is involved?
Mini-pupillages usually last for between three and five days in a week, and we are happy to be flexible about the amount of time you spend with us. For the duration of your mini-pupillage you would be attached to one of our junior barristers so you can get a feel for the kinds of work that we do. As our barristers are not in court every day, you are likely to spend at least some of your mini-pupillage looking at papers and discussing them with the barrister you are attached to. You will also typically have the chance to meet other Monckton barristers, from our newest tenants to our QCs, and to see some of them advise clients in conferences and fight cases in court. If you have an interest in a particular practice area we will try to accommodate that.
Will there be an assessment?
Mini-pupils are asked to try their hands at one of our 'assessments' at some point during their time with us. These are short sets of papers adapted from real legal problems that barristers here have advised on in the past, and they are written so as to be accessible both to law students and to those who have a non-law academic background. You will be able to choose which of the assessments to focus on, and will then be given time to read and think about the legal problems involved before talking them through with one of our barristers towards the end of your mini-pupillage.
Who should apply?
Our mini-pupillage scheme is intended for people who are in their final year at, or have already graduated from, university, and who are interested in our areas of legal practice.
How do I apply?
If you would like to undertake a mini-pupillage with us, please send a copy of your CV, together with a covering letter setting out the dates when you would be available for a mini-pupillage, to:
Susan Davis at sdavis@monckton.com
We consider applications periodically in batches, and will let you know as soon as possible whether we are able to accommodate you.
The number of requests we receive for mini-pupillages substantially exceeds the number of mini-pupils we are able to host. We hope that applicants will understand that if we cannot fit you in for a mini-pupillage, that does not necessarily mean that you would not be selected for interview if you applied to us for pupillage.
Mini-pupils will be required to sign a confidentiality undertaking.
