  • VIC GLO - group litigation in the High Court raising issues of the compatibility of UK VAT legislation with European Community law
  • Calls to Mobile - Jorren is currently instructed in the mobile call termination appeals in the Competition Appeal Tribunal and before the Competition Commission

  • Floe v OFCOM in the Court of Appeal - appeal in relation to the procedural powers of the Competition Appeal Tribunal (as a pupil to Jon Turner QC)

Jorren practises principally in competition law, procurement, VAT and telecoms regulation. He represents clients in disputes in the High Court, County Court, Competition Appeal Tribunal and VAT Tribunal and before the regulators.

Since being called to the Bar, Jorren has completed secondments to the EU/Competition team at Norton Rose LLP and to the Cartels Department at the Office of Fair Trading. As a consequence he has unrivalled experience for a barrister of his call due to the broad range of matters he worked on during both secondments. Examples include:

  • Acting as principal case officer on a major cartel investigation in the aviation industry
  • Progressing the Kangaroo joint venture, a multi-party media merger, through OFT and Competition Commission regulatory approval procedures
  • Advising a supermarket in relation to cartel infringement proceedings brought by the OFT relating to the tobacco industry
  • Bringing a dispute before GEMA in relation to connection charging for a wind farm development

As a result of his secondments, Jorren has a first class understanding of the needs of both regulator and private sector clients within the field of competition law. He has also developed the ability to provide practical concise advice.
