Freedom of Information and Data Protection
Monckton Chambers has extensive experience in the field of information law, including the application of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, the Environmental Information Regulations 2004 and the Data Protection Act 1998. We have particular expertise in information law in the EU, including EU rules on access to information and the EU's implementation of the Aarhus Convention.
We advise individuals, NGOs and commercial organisations seeking access to information, and are able to advise on the operation of freedom of information (FOI) in a public procurement context. Members regularly act on behalf of the Information Commissioner and a number have been appointed to the Attorney General's panel of specialist FOI counsel and regularly appear before the Information Tribunal in that capacity. Members have extensive experience of advising public bodies, ranging from local authorities to the Cabinet Office, on FOI and data protection, including in the context of ongoing judicial review challenges.
